The diary of a self-builder – Autumn 2016
Week Four: Perfect piping
Our builders have finished building all the foundation walls, have backfilled with gravel and are getting the area ready for the concrete solum to be poured. The ducting and pipes are in place for the services to come though, and because the large JCB is still on site, our builders are also digging out the surface water drainage pit and laying the piping and installing the inspection chambers.
Week Five: Concrete decisions
The concrete for the solum in the garage and house was poured and is set, and our builders are now busy working on the wooden floor joists and DPC. Lots of materials arrive on site as needed daily, and it's great to see such fast progress. But heavy winds and rain are forecast for this week, so we're keeping our fingers crossed the forecasters are wrong and work can carry on this week before our builders stop for the Christmas break.
