The diary of a self-builder – Spring 2017

Week Fourteen: Insulation just in time…

The site week 12The walls are all being taped and sanded down this week in the house, and Brian has been tasked with the job of fixing the loft insulation, so he's donned the protective suit, mask and gloves and has bravely spent 2 days in the loft spreading the insulation out. Work outside has stopped now as we've had heavy snowfall and it's bitterly cold, but it's not predicted to last long, thank goodness!

Week Fifteen: Quality family time…

The site week 13Our Ikea kitchen units have been delivered, and we're storing them in the lounge, which makes it a bit tricky as we're starting to paint the ceiling and walls in the house this week!  But it means we can assemble units and paint on alternate days - nothing like a bit of variety!

The family are helping us to paint and assemble units and we're timing how quickly we can assemble Ikea units - got it down to 7 1/2 minutes on a tall wall-hung unit!

The oil boiler is in place in the garage, and the oil tank has been installed on its plinth in the garden with ducting run across the garden to lay oil and electric pipes to the tank, and we've ordered 300 litres of oil to get the boiler fired up and heating on.
